The surroundings of the Smědná Ryba Cottage are a great place for families with children - they offer space for movement, discovery and fun in nature.
🌲 Nature as the largest playground - The forests, meadows and streams around the cottage are ideal for walks, collecting pine cones, building bunkers, observing animals or simple family hikes suitable even for smaller children.
🧭 Easy trips and nature trails - The Turiec region has short routes and places where children can learn more about nature, history and life in the mountains in a playful way.
🏛️ Fun and educational museums - In Martin and the surrounding area you will find museums and interactive exhibitions that are also interesting for children and ideal for shorter trips.

The swimming pool in Vrútky is a nice swimming pool near the Smědná Ryba cottage and is approximately 3–4.5 km from the Smědná Ryba cottage as the crow flies, it is about ~10–15 minutes by car or a short bike ride or about 30 minutes on foot.
🏊 What it offers: The complex has 3 pools - a larger swimming pool, a pool for children under 12 and a small children's pool. It is ideal for families, children and recreational swimmers during the summer season (open mostly from June to August).

The Martinské hole – Winter Park ski resort is located approximately 10–12 km from Chata Smědná Ryba, which is about a 40-minute drive (depending on winter conditions). The resort is popular for its altitude, beautiful views, slopes for different levels of skiers.
Another ski resort, Snowland Valča, is located approximately 15 km from Chata Smědná Ryba, which is about a 20-minute drive. The resort offers slopes for beginners and advanced skiers, children's lifts, a ski school and complete facilities for families.

Otherwise, cross-country skiing trails are available right in front of the windows, ideal for quiet winter activities.

We do not tolerate noisy celebrations and parties under the age of 26, and we only accommodate guests based on valid documents and a completed questionnaire, which is used for the purposes of keeping a guest book and invoicing.
