Vyšná Boca (altitude ≈953m, ca. 100 inhabitants) is a small mining village in Liptovský Mikuláš District, Žilina Region, Slovakia.
It was founded in the Middle Ages by mining gold, silver, copper and iron, especially from the 14th to the 16th century. It was administered by a mining court as early as 1552. Mining activities gradually disappeared in the 19th and 20th centuries, replaced by forestry and agricultural life.

The museum of the original miner's house shows the interior of a mining family with original equipment and an exhibition of the history of mining in the region. It provides a unique insight into the past of the people of this area

Traditional architecture & nature
The village is known for its many well-preserved wooden houses from the 18th–19th centuries and the specific folk architecture in the Bocianska Valley (Čertovica or Boca stream), accompanied by open haylofts and mountain huts.
A walk through the valley offers beautiful views of the limestone massifs and the surrounding nature of the Tatra Mountains.
Bacúch – Vyšná Boca Nature Trail
This moderately difficult trek (14km, elevation gain 690m, approx. 5.5 h) connects the villages of Bacúch and Vyšná Boca, leads through the Bacúšske sedlo (~1315m) and provides numerous information panels about nature and mining. The Ramža shelter on the route facilitates hiking. Bus or train transport to Bacúch and Vyšná Boca is also possible.
Other hiking trails
The village is connected by 9 hiking trails with a total length of approx. 19km: from short ones (2–5km) to trails leading to the ridge of the Low Tatras (for example, along the blue trail – Bacúšske sedlo). Many trails are thematically focused (mining, landscape, E8, SNP trails) and suitable for hiking or cycling.
Surroundings: hiking and skiing
The area belongs to the Low Tatras, within NAPANT. In addition to hiking trails, popular hikes to Ďumbier (2043m), Chopok or Ohnište (with a karst window) in the vicinity of Nižná Boca (approx. 6km) are available.
Winter brings skiing opportunities - there is a smaller resort called Bačova Roveň in the village, and about 3km above it is the Čertovica ski resort, also used for cross-country skiing.
Caves: for speleology enthusiasts
The Dead Bat Cave in the Kozie Chrbty massif is accessible by 3 routes. Route A (~1km) is also suitable for families with children. Routes B and C are challenging (2–3h), suitable for adults with physical fitness. The cave is a national natural monument, with a constant temperature of 1–3.5°C, warm clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended. Advance booking is required.
Also known is the Bystrianska cave near the village of Bystrá – a shorter route (580m), with several natural corridors and bats, also suitable for speleotherapy.
