Maria Theresa's husband, Francis of Lorraine, established one of the first manufactories in Slovakia in Holíč in 1743. The manufactories continued the tradition of the old Haban ceramic workshops that previously existed here. It housed ceramic production facilities such as clay processing, glazing, muffles production, kilns, a brickyard, laboratories, warehouses, a painting workshop, a sales store, and offices.
