Castle Nitra
The castle is mentioned for the first time in 1138 under the name castrum Nitra. It was built on the site of an old Slavic fortification. The castle included the basilica of St. Emeram, which housed the remains of St. Andrew. In 1271, it suffered a fire. Subsequently, the castle was renovated. The fortifications were also rebuilt several times as the castle was frequently besieged. In the 17th century, it was taken over by the Turks. A portion of the church of St. Emeram, the defensive wall, the castle gate, and a large Gothic church have survived from its original form.
