The castle was built in the 13th century, probably by descendants of the nobleman Leustach. It often changed owners because the area was attractive due to gold mining. After the Hussite period, it passed into the hands of King Matthias Corvinus's wife, Princess Beatrix. During the Kuruc uprising, the castle could not be saved and was burnt by the rebels. It was later renovated and new parts were added. Since the 19th century, it has been declining.
