Church of Sv. Trinity Košice
The most valuable baroque structure in Košice with the most beautiful period interior is the Church of the Holy Trinity. At the site of the present Premonstratensian church, there stood a so-called royal house in the medieval period. It was the seat of an important economic institution - the royal chamber. At the beginning of the re-Catholicization, a residence and chapel were established here for the Jesuits. Later, the Jesuits built schools next to the church, and the first university in Košice was also founded here, which at that time was the second in the entire country. The decoration and furnishings date back to the Jesuit period. The painted altars of the side chapels and rare woodwork, represented by the pulpit, are valuable. In the crypt, which was intended to serve as the burial place for the Rákóczi family, lies the donor and founder of the church, Princess Žofia Báthory, and her son, František I.The most valuable baroque structure in Košice with the most beautiful period interior is the Church of the Holy Trinity.
