Kremnica is the historical center of gold mining in Slovakia. Initially, florins were minted from the extracted Kremnica gold, and in the early second third of the 14th century, the minting of ducats began. The oldest part of the present mint is its southeastern wing, which preserved the original room of the former treasury. A deeper insight into minting and medal engraving in Kremnica is provided by the Museum of Coins and Medals. In 2006, the mint opened its own exhibition. Visitors can see interesting exhibits of minting technology and also the old minting room - one of the historically most interesting spaces in the mint.
