From 1460, the castle belonged to the Zápoľský family. Afterwards, it was managed by the Thurzovci, and later by the Csáky family, who moved to the chateau in 1710, leaving the castle abandoned. By 1780, a fire ultimately ruined the castle. Due to numerous reconstructions, the castle is among the most extensive not only in our territory but also in all of Europe.
