During the 19th and 20th centuries, these shelters served as makeshift homes for the local poor inhabitants. Their original purpose remains unknown to this day. Some say they were Turkish hideouts used in the 16th - 17th centuries or that they were cellars or even baths. Today, the Turkish wells are a popular spot for relaxation.
