Vyšehrad Jasenovo
In the Žiar Mountains lies the peak of Vyšehrad, known for its history. It stands at the border of Ponitria and Turiec and, in the past, was a significant strategic site from which the trade route through Europe - the so-called Amber Road - could be monitored. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. During Great Moravia, there was a fortified settlement that was an important power center of the region. In the Middle Ages, there were smaller wooden fortifications on Vyšehrad, remnants of which can still be seen today. The peak of Vyšehrad is one of the most significant archaeological sites and an interesting tourist destination. The peak area has been declared a national nature reserve. This location is home to steppe vegetation and protected insect species. An educational trail leading through this place offers wonderful views of the surrounding area and highlights the history, archaeology, and natural features of the region.
