This rare structure was built in 1521 and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the past, the klopačka would loudly knock on a freely hanging wooden board during various occasions. The rhythm of the knocking could distinguish what event it was announcing, such as military danger, a funeral, or the start of work in the mine. Before miners descended into the tunnels, they would pray together. Prior to these prayers, the klopačka would increase the knocking frequency to encourage the sleepy men to hurry. The uniqueness of the mining klopačka is emphasized by the hour machine, which dates back to the late 18th century. This machine has only one hand, which is unique in Slovakia.
